Having sick kiddos can be scary and stressful. I remember when my kids had their first cold, it hit each one of them pretty bad. When they’re younger anything, even the regular cold virus can make them feel miserable. I remember being in the ER with my daughter when she was around 2 years old. She had a temperature, was congested and coughing and just wasn’t herself. We had X-rays done and the doctors thought it was a cold that had turned into bronchitis. She was miserable. Having a sick child is truly one of the most distressing situations that I have ever dealt with as a mother. Thankfully after some rest and antibiotics, she was her normal self again, but ever since that situation happened, we have been more diligent about fighting germs around the home.
I am partnering with Clorox today for this post because when you make a Clorox clean the first thing…good things just follow – more morning kisses before school, less sick days, more play time and more sweet sister moments. Don’t miss the giveaway at the end of this post for some cleaning goodness!
I do my best, but as a mom to two school-aged kids, I know that there is only so much that I can do to prevent them from getting ill. But even when my kids do come home sick, flu prevention steps are just as important to help keep colds and flu at bay from the rest of the household. And given last year’s severe flu season, I know that even sometimes I need a refresher on ways to prevent the spread of germs.
I am partnering with Clorox today to give you ways to help prep your home against cold & flu this season. Also, don’t miss the giveaway at the end of this post for some cleaning goodness!
HERE ARE SOME THINGS WE DO AROUND THE HOME TO HELP KEEP THE GERMS AWAY.
Wash Hands Frequently: Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. I teach my kids to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice before they are done. We always wash before eating and I try to teach them never to put their fingers in their mouth.
Disinfect Germ Hot Spots: Use a disinfectant approved to kill cold & flu viruses, like Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes, to wipe the surfaces touched most frequently, like doorknobs, light switches, faucets or toys. We do this especially after someone in the household has been sick. We use Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes because they kill 99.9% of germs including viruses that cause colds and flu and also kill Staph, E. Coli, Salmonella and Strep.
Do the Elbow Cough: We teach the kids to cough and sneeze into their elbow instead of their hands so that they prevent the spread of germs by touch.
Follow Good Health Guidelines: In addition to wiping down surfaces with Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and washing hands, we also try to eat right, exercise frequently and also get plenty of sleep. All this can help boost your body’s ability to fight the effects of colds and flu.
According to research, 44% of parents say the thing they remember most about dealing with their kids’ first cold or flu was feeling helpless, worrying about what to do (43%), teaching them to cover their mouth when they cough (38%) and disinfecting everything (36%). Alongside staying home (53%) and hand washing (48%), 46% of parents say cleaning and disinfecting is a priority for stopping the spread of classroom illnesses.
Now is the time when clean matters because it protects your family from the spread of nasty germs and sets the stage for a happy, healthy year.
