Top Baby Products for New Moms

With the arrival of our 2nd daughter fast approaching, I began thinking of all the things we used for little R when she was a baby. And I thought it would be a great idea to put together a list of the best baby products we used and honestly could not have done without. Some of them, I found out about only after little R was already a few months old, but wished someone had told me about them before so I could have been better prepared.

Here are the Top Baby Products I highly recommend for new moms.

#1. Snuza Halo Baby Movement Monitor

I admit, I was one crazy paranoid mom. I know all new moms are probably a little nervous when it comes to your new baby and sleep, but I was probably on the verge of being OCD about it. I was constantly checking my little one in the middle of the night to make sure she was ok, make sure she was breathing that she had enough air. I do not know what I would have done without the Snuza. This was literally a life saver, I was able to get some sleep at night.

It is very light and compact, so the baby doesn’t even feel it as she is wearing it. You attach it to your baby’s diaper under her clothes. The way it works is by detecting movement. It is so advanced that it detects the smallest amount of movement that your baby’s tummy makes as she breathes in and out. If your baby stops breathing for more than 15 seconds an alarm sounds. To keep an even closer watch, there is a setting on the Snuza that you can set to where it makes a tiny, low beep every time her tummy moves up and down. The paranoid mom I am, I used this setting. It was loud enough to where I could hear it, but not loud enough to wake the baby. I went to sleep listening to that comforting sound of that tiny beep. We used it until little R was about 12 months and we plan on using it with the new baby too.

#2 Graco Pack ‘N Play Playard with Reversible Napper and Changer

The Pack and Play Playard is something we still use today. When little R was born we didn’t put her in her crib. She was so tiny and I was breastfeeding so we needed something that we could pull close to our bed and that was easily accessible in the middle of the night. The Pack and Play we used as her bassinet until she was about 6 months old. The playard has two sleep areas for baby. It has a day napper which also doubles as a changer, and it has the main mattress inside.

We used the napper during the day and at night, she would sleep on the main mattress. Because of this product, to this date, we have NEVER used the crib or changing table. Those are still unused in her room. Now that little R is older and almost walking she uses this mainly as a playpen. She has recently discovered how to climb on all our furniture so when unsupervised she is in her playard. The playard is actually also very easy to transport. When she goes to visit her aunt or grandma, the playard goes with her. You literally just pull a cord in the middle of the bottom floor and it folds up with the mattress doubling as the playard carrier.

#3 Aden + Anais Easy Swaddle Blankets

We used the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets to swaddle little R in as she slept for about the first 6 months. She could not sleep unless she was swaddled. If she wasn’t, she would wake herself up in the middle of the night either by her arms hitting her face or her legs kicking. It makes sense that when babies are so compact in the womb, that they would need to be swaddled as newborns. They swaddle blankets are very soft and comfy for baby and come in multiple colors and designs.

#4 Boppy Pillow with Slipcover

The Boppy is a MUST have, whether you are nursing or bottle feeding. It is very comfortable for mom to use when baby is feeding. It goes around the belly and baby lays on top in a position ready to take the bottle or breast. I tried regular pillows before purchasing a Boppy and the pillows do not compare. After a while the baby would sink down in the pillow which caused me to have to re-position frequently. Once she wasn’t so tiny I used the Boppy to help her sit up and also used it to give her tummy time.

#5 Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat + Base

In my opinion the Chicco Keyfit car seats are the best and safest ones out there. They are rated #1 by many baby sites for safety and baby comfort. I can attest to this, little R can fall asleep so easily and peacefully in it. It has adjustable straps so you can adjust as they grow. It also has a removable newborn insert to keep them snug when they are so tiny.

Want another reason? See #6! The car seat pulls out and snaps into the stroller frame so you never have to remove baby from the car seat to put them into a stroller.

#6 Chicco Keyfit Caddy Stroller Frame

The Chicco stroller frame folds up easily and is very lightweight. I am able to lug this around being 8 months pregnant with no problem. It folds up and fits nicely in my trunk. It has a storage at the bottom which I use all the time to put her diaper bag or my purse in, or even groceries at the grocery store. The best thing about it is (see #5) it’s just a frame! You can transport baby easily from the car and snap her into the stroller without having to disturb baby. By far, one of the best baby products out there in my opinion.

So there you have it, all the things I would recommend for any new mom that I could not have done without.
